Dr Akiko Nishiyama, employee of Institute of Physics, has received a grant from Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) for a project “Broadband and highly sensitive spectroscopy of free-radicals and short-lived molecules using an infrared frequency comb”. The aim of the Project is to reveal some chemical reaction processes using advanced broadband frequency comb spectroscopy techniques. The research will provide valuable information about formation processes of interstellar molecules which is important in astronomical and prebiotic chemistries.

The project will start in April 2019 and the research will be conducted in Ultrafast and Ultraprecise Spectroscopy Laboratory in COK in collaboration with dr Piotr Maslowski and dr hab. Piotr Żuchowski and research groups from Germany and Italy.

This project is funded by a grant “Overseas Research Fellowships” from Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). The purpose of the grant is as follows, “To foster highly capable researchers with wide international perspectives, this fellowship gives excellent young Japanese researchers an opportunity to carry out long-term research at an overseas university or research institution” (https://www.jsps.go.jp/english/e-ab/index.html).
