Our researchers at the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Informatics have been awarded 1.7 mln PLN for the project "System kriogeniczny do rozwijania nowych optycznych technologii kwantowych". The project is managed by Dr. Piotr Wcisło.

The project is financed by the program „Zakup aparatury naukowo-badawczej stanowiącej dużą infrastrukturę badawczą" of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Specifically, the Ministry is providing 1 659 000 PLN (745 000 PLN in 2018 and 914 000 PLN in 2019), while the University is investing 41 000 PLN. All funds will be used to finance a new research apparatus. Our research team will purchase an apparatus that will allow them to steer the temperature (between 10 to 300 K) in experimental setups such as ultra stable optical cavities and confocal microscopes. The investment will open the way to launch completely new research programs in the field of atomic and molecular physics, chemistry of simple molecules, quantum information theory, and ultra-precise optical metrology as well as to go beyond the Standard Model.

Dr. Piotr Wcisło graduated from Jagiellonian University in Krakow (2010). He defended his PhD thesis in the Institute of Physics in 2015. He visited various laboratories abroad (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, USA, and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam). He was awarded various stipends and research grants (START 2015, Sonata, „Mobilność Plus”). You can find more about Piotr Wcisło here
